A community of Capoeira Angola practitioners from Hong Kong
This art form was brought by the Africans enslaved from Africa to Brazil, spread among the oppressed, then pass-on and thrives in the rest of the world as time evolves.
Capoeira consists of two main elements, the music, singing in Brazilian Portuguese while accompanied by traditional instruments (berimbau, pandeiro, atabaque...). The other being the movement having its root in martial arts fighting skills. Through the combined training of music and movement, we learn to express oneself in the communication with others, aiming to reach a harmonious yet playful connection. The practice helps us to extend and learn the history, culture, philosophy and humanity, which still very much resonate and reflect in our modern daily life.
Capoeira Angola
As a tradition, a RODA (ring) is formed with the orchestra and players sitting in a circle while two capoeiristas are playing inside. The roda is the place where we bring the community to listen, express, communicate and have fun, together we create positive vibration (Axé) for everyone inside and outside of the roda.
